The elements and principles I will focus on for this project are line, color, balance, and unity. I plan to make every illustration colorful with purposeful lines. I will also try and make each drawing look balanced. In the end, I hope that there is strong unity throughout the entire project.
Preliminary Sketches
"Your Towdy isn't gonna be very happy with you when he power's up!"
After all the yelling and nagging, poor Keebler broke down.
"...aw jeez, now my wires are all breaking!"
To begin the day he took an air bath.
"Wow Keebler! Who knew you were such a shiny keyboard?"
The pudgy, chocolate covered fingertips of the gamer hovered above poor Keebler.
"Aww could you lay off dude!"
Finally, I can communicate with this senseless human!
The Final Illustrations
Reflection
During April and May I was presented with the opportunity to illustrate a children’s book. During April I studied the story and then sketched seventeen different layouts. I completed the illustrations in May. I think the variety of pictures is strong. I a nice job showing different expressions of the keyboard. I could have spent a little more time making the boy look more like one person throughout the story. I do not feel that he looks the same in every picture. The unity is Keebler. The whole story is based around the little keyboard. He’s the main character. An important element in the illustrations is line. I put the same black ink lines in every portrait. Shape was also important. It was necessary to have similar shapes throughout the pictures. Unity is definitely emphasized in the illustrations through Keebler, Towdy, and Monity. I also put a strong emphasis on facial expressions to help communicate the story. I learned through this project that good things take time and that it is important to not give up. Those are both lessons that could be applied to many situations in life. To complete the illustrations, first I sketched them. Then I colored them with colored pencils and water-colored them too. To finish, I added ink to highlight the major lines. I looked through many children’s books and took the things that I liked most and combined them to make my illustrations. I divided the story into pages to illustrate, but ended up combining a couple, because I felt that they were unnecessary to have separated. I definitely struggled staying focus with this project. The fact that it was for someone else helped me carry on. I strongly believe that this was a worthwhile project. This is something I could see myself doing in the future.
Keep trying mister. I run this computer now.
The teenager pushed over his chair and stomped out of the room.
"I promise I'll be more respectful of your feelings as I play my game!"
Man, if I keep this going, who knows what my life could be like!
Umm, that is Mr. Keebler Keyboard to you Mister.
He had his packet of papers in his hand, he laid them on the desk.
